Western Thailand Horror: 14 Dead, Over 30 Injured in Devastating Bus Collision
In a tragic incident unfolding in western Thailand in the early hours of Tuesday, a bus crash has claimed the lives of 14 individuals, leaving more than 30 others injured, as reported by officials.
The calamity transpired in Prachuap Khiri Khan province during the journey of the bus from the capital, Bangkok, en route to Songkhla province in the deep south. The bus, carrying a total of 49 passengers, veered off the road and collided with a tree near Hat Wanakorn National Park, as detailed by a local police official. Prachuap Khiri Khan province, situated along the coastal stretch between the Gulf of Thailand and Myanmar, now bears witness to this devastating incident.
Preliminary assessments by Pol. Col. Weerapat Ketesa, the superintendent of the Huay Yang Police Station, suggest that the driver may have succumbed to fatigue, stating, “We presume the driver might have fallen asleep.” Authorities await the results of a blood test on the surviving driver, as investigations into the root cause of the crash are still underway.
The majority of the victims are Thai nationals, with a small number hailing from Myanmar, according to Weerapat. Presently, around 35 individuals are undergoing medical treatment for their injuries at local hospitals, as reported by the Sawang Rungrueang Rescue Foundation.
Law enforcement continues to probe the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident, seeking to uncover the precise factors that led to the bus crash in Prachuap Khiri Khan province.
